Monteith's of NZ pick up a silver in packaging design

Not to be confused with wetting your whistle on the award winning local brew above, or with island drinking culture for that matter. This is simply a collection of New Zealand’s finery in design.

Girls Try Rugby

Encouraging girls to play a predominantly male sport was never going to be easy. The brief: To create a non offensive Try Rugby poster for local schools that will recruit girls into the sport.

Reverting back to the basics of typography and symbolism this soon to be graffitied poster was the result.

Terminal monstrosity.

Gareth Rowson on AFF course in Spain

I might be being hard on myself, but judging by the picture above it’s unlikely. Still, this is what they call an ‘unstable exit’ and is all part of the AFF training – I just took a little longer than ideal to regain stability. You can watch all the action here.

Thankfully I passed, and fortunately we don’t get grades at freefall university, so a pass is a pass! It’s another tick off the annual ‘year older, what have you done?’ personal log. It’s been a long time coming so I finally took a week off and headed to Madrid for a few days jumping. The plan was to become fully qualified, but with only 4 days and the last shut down with high winds, I’m still shy 4 or 5 jumps and a packing course but 14 jumps with 7 of them solo remains satisfying for now.

Not to worry, one of the pros is keen to have some skydiving tee designs done in exchange for free jumps and training. Then I’ll be free to continue my globe trotting adventures complete with aerial views at terminal velocity. Big thanks to all the expert instructors and packing crew that saved my life dozens of times at the drop zone.

Once you hop and pop, you can’t stop!

The digital advertising police are coming!

September 10th, 2010   |   Posted by

We all knew it would come eventually and perhaps not a bad thing.  The Advertising Standards Authority have announced they are to police brands’ own websites and their other non paid-for online messages on spaces such as Twitter and Facebook, from 1 March next year.  So giving marketers 6 months to tighten up on claims being made.

Crowne Plaza Marketing Brochure

This unique pop-up brochure for 51 Buckingham Gate was Steph Brun’s latest work, and left for me to oversee it’s binding into life… and consequently take all the glory.

Steph’s challenge was to create a strong marketing piece, that would leave enough of an impression to capture it’s audience without the need to give it to anyone. Used for an international business-to-business speed dating event, the rules were simple, no leave behinds and just a few minutes with each client…
