Oi has won the digital marketing account for international airline Thai Airways UK & Ireland following a three-way pitch against London agencies.

The opportunity to pitch for the account came after Peter Grange, Oi Managing Director, travelled to Thailand with Thai Airways at Christmas. The major chaos at Heathrow Airport, due to severe snowstorms, meant that Thai Airways had to call all of their staff, including their sales and marketing team from the London office, to Heathrow…

‘While at the time the snow delays were bad, it meant that I met members of the sales and marketing team, got to chat to them over the few days which included talking about Oi and what we do,’ said Peter.

‘Several months ago, out of the blue, a member of the Thai Airways sales and marketing team emailed and asked if we would be interested in pitching for their digital account, to which I of course said yes!’.

Coming from what many may have said was a long-shot chance of winning against the incumbent and a large digital agency, both London-based, a strong team combining creative, digital, search engine optimization, and email marketing experts from Oi developed and presented a well thought out digital solution to the brief from the sales and marketing team at Thai Airways.

‘Working for such a prestigious international airline brand is very exciting and we’re looking forward to helping build their business across national and international markets,’ said Peter.

Oi’s first work for Thai Airways will involve redesigning and launching their UK and Ireland websites, undertaking a comprehensive SEO review and new SEO approach, developing a new digital marketing plan including database management, email marketing campaigns, ongoing analysis and strategic recommendations, plus promotional and campaign work.

‘As Thai Airways’ retained digital agency we’re looking forward to implementing a robust digital marketing program,’ said Georgea Frank-Tann, Oi Account Manager.

Oi Jersey has won the advertising and marketing account for Jersey’s leading estate agency.

Thompson Estates has appointed Oi to refresh its brand image including developing new advertising, website and overhaul of its hugely popular Property Monthly magazine, which is distributed to over 38,500 households and businesses in the island…

Stumbling on a unique site from the homeland recently had me quizzing our digital guys on its development, or more accurately, asking how on earth does that work? View the New Zealand Tourism site click on travel and scroll down to reveal the cunning bit of coding that had us all grinning with geeky delight.

With lots of impressive digital wizardry going on at the moment it’s little surprise that last years launch of HTML5 into the mainstream was a leading suspect alongside some slick JavaScript – creating new experiences in web browsing as rarely seen before.

Not to be without an answer, one of our digital crew sent through a similar use of the same technology on a site from Nike which is well worth a look.

Better still, just how it was done is all explained in an article from Smashing Magazine.

It turns out these parallax scrolling techniques are nothing new but the illusion is nonetheless impressive. In its basic form, background images scroll at the slowest rate, sprites scroll slightly faster and the content just scrolls at the rate of the browser. Then of course where the NZ site is concerned, you have dozens of scenes shot at various intervals and pans like a stop motion effect as you scroll – producing a pleasing dynamic when browsing for things to blog about.

James finished a design degree at University for Creative Arts (UCA) in 2006 then returned to his home island of Jersey to work for Side-On. During his time there he was responsible for some award-winning creative campaigns. He’s had a stint working on personal projects and is now looking forward to working on the many exciting projects for clients the Oi Jersey team are picking up, plus hopefully helping win us a few more marketing awards.

But for those in IT departments of major banks this clever bit of software allows them (via internet banking) and internally to make payments more quickly, reliably and overall increases the efficiency of sending money around the world in any currency. Oi has grown by 25% in recent months with five hires across its digital media and client services teams in Jersey and Guernsey.

Experienced web and e-commerce developer Steven Andrews has been appointed Head of Digital. The agency continues to expand in this area to meet client needs and stay at the forefront of all aspects of website design and build, app development, online, social media and mobile marketing…

Steven has six years commercial experience under his belt including working for an international music publishing company where he was responsible for their ecommerce platforms. With a degree in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science from Sussex University, Steven is well versed in the latest digital programs including mobile and iPad application development.

‘With both web applications coming of age and the explosion of native mobile device apps this is an exciting time to be working in the industry,’ he said.
David Richards has also joined Oi’s digital media team as a website developer. He studied software systems, web design and relational databases at Bournemouth University before returning to the islands.

‘The growth of all forms of digital marketing over recent years has been phenomenal. We embraced this early on and have grown our digital media team in tandem with this curve,‘ said Peter Grange, Oi Managing Director.

‘I believe that an agency needs to have significant strategic, creative and digital media expertise in-house to effectively provide clients with marketing communications solutions across both traditional and digital channels. Furthermore, you need to be progressive.’

Oi opened a Jersey office last month headed by Heather Townsend and has just hired Joelle Wallser as an Account Executive who has 10 years industry experience. Georgea Frank-Tann and Shona Caine recently joined the agency in Guernsey as Account Manager and Account Executive respectively, working in the Client Services team. Oi is also looking to hire a senior creative in Jersey and two further web developers in Guernsey.

With the Jersey branch of Oi now open we are pleased to welcome Joelle Wallser to the Oi team, and our first recruit in Jersey…

Joelle will be working within the Client Services team as an Account Executive. She has already been over to our Guernsey office for an induction day, and to meet the team the other side of the water.

After completing an art and design course Joelle started off her career at a local advertising design firm, where she learnt the ins and outs of creative for advertising and print. Moving on from this Joelle took her first marketing role at a leading local department store and has now clocked up over 10 years of experience in the industry, minus a couple of years out travelling and experiencing different cultures. Whilst living in Australia our new recruit took a placement for an Australian print firm concentrating on the design side of the industry. Returning to Jersey, Joelle secured a position with a local marketing and media sales company for 5 years. She is currently studying towards the CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing, and in her own words, Joelle is ‘ hungry for knowledge within the industry and excited to be working for ‘the most progressive Channel Islands marketing company’.

Oi has won a pitch against London agencies to become the digital partner for a leading global alternative investment consultancy, which has its head office in London.

Laven Partners appointed the agency following a final shoot out against two London agencies and said its selection process was based on our ability to provide ‘the full range of digital media services from design, build, to all areas of online marketing’.

We are currently working on the redesign and build of the company’s three websites, which will be launched in June.

Oi has opened an office in Jersey to service existing pan-island clients and seek further expansion.

Heather Townsend, a qualified marketer, has been promoted to Director of Oi Jersey, which is based in 4 Wharf Street, St Helier. She will initially be supported by an Account Executive and is looking for experienced creatives, designers and web developers in order to expand the agency.

Heather previously ran Oi’s Client Services department in Guernsey before moving to live in Jersey earlier this year. Prior to that she worked for a leading full-service marketing and advertising agency in London for five years.

‘As the biggest brand communications agency in Guernsey, and with a portfolio of pan-island clients including Collins Stewart Wealth Management, Investec, Cherry Godfrey, Garenne Group and Waitrose, the Jersey office was a logical next step in the evolution of Oi,’ said Heather…

The Oi Guernsey and Jersey offices will work very closely together and be able to offer clients better insight, advice and action across both markets. It also means Oi has access to a wider pool of individuals from a recruitment perspective.

Established in 2004, Oi is a full-service brand communications agency now employing 20 staff. Services include advertising, branding, design, digital media, internal and investor communications, marketing strategy and planning, media and print buying. All provided in-house. It has a unique investor communications division and the largest agency digital media team in the Channel Islands, with six web and app developers. This has doubled in size in the last year.
