The latest results in the coveted ‘Superbrands’ survey have just been announced this morning. No massive surprises here at the top with Microsoft and Google again fighting for top spots. Handset manufacturer Blackberry is an interesting new entry in the top 10, going from 42nd place in 2009 up to third reflecting the constant quest for the latest technology, while Sony and Virgin Atlantic have been voted into third and fourth place respectively. Nokia, Bupa, BP and Michelin have all fallen from the top 10. Whilst British Airways appears at 4 despite the latest cabin crew strike threats plaguing it…

What a beautiful idea this is. The Design Auction was set up by some tutors and students of Lincoln School of Art & Design back in 2007 as a way to make some cash for their third year graphic design end of year degree show. A few phone-calls and emails later and the great & good of the design world were offering them rare and beautiful bits and pieces of loveliness and gorgousnessness. It’s a simply brilliant idea, a great website and a showcase of some truly ground-breaking bits of design. So grab yer’ mouse, a cup of tea and a pack of Digestives and enjoy…

The cup of tea that won’t hit the spot, well maybe half of it!
A saucer with eyes and a cup shaped smile. Cute to look at, but I’d be putting my cup shaped smile upside down.
Ok I’ll take 2, you can keep the extra saucer.

If there’s one thing I hate more than anything else (well, that’s not strictly true as I hate most things, but y’get what I mean) it’s animals in clothing. For me, there’s just no need to dress your pet up like a fool; cats in hats, dogs in coats, canary’s in toupees and fake beak hair…madness. If the good Lord had intended Spot to wear a Hugo Boss suit he’d have made Hugo Boss a dog and canines would rule the world in an horrific re-visiting of Planet of the Apes, where over-sized poodles lead mangy human beings around parks on the end of twine and wait patiently while the whimpering homo-sapiens defecate in all the wrong places…

Floppy discs.
A thing of the past. Barely existing remnants of a bygone era. London artist Nick Gentry has turned his into art. I turned my old ones into coasters….
Shows how creative I am.
There might not be any billboards in the Channel Islands, but it doesn’t mean you can’t use outdoor media tactics. Probably best to anchor the inflatable billboard near some packed beach, and then shoot off on the boat though!
Hello 2010 – the year  many companies have re-evaluated their business strategies, models and approaches, and are taking a fresh look at the way they do business. Sometimes change is good; it keeps you on your toes and thinking forward.
This year we’re changing things slightly but at the same time keeping it simple. Three core areas of focus, in fact: increase our investment in the development of our staff, help our clients embrace the ‘new world’ and effectively communicate with audiences through the rapidly evolving and converging channels, and enhance our business development approach…

You might find this surprising but Barbie is a bigger tech-geek than all of Oi Digital put together; which is pretty geeky. But even we were surprised when she came in to the studio this morning surfing Vogue.com on her new Apple iPad.

Well revered as a barometer not only for the marketing fraternity’s fortunes and so those in marketing services like ourselves, but also for the economy in general.  For the first time in a few quarters a little good news is emerging.  As an IPA member agency we’re delighted to summarise directly findings from this important report;
It’s not often I get excited by shiny silver technology…well, not often…ahem….but I’ve just been forced to stop work entirely and rush to the bank to see if I have a spare £160 to fork out on one of these beauties…

Paper hates to be written on. It must do, because whenever we’re struck with a noteworthy brainwave or have a voicemail with an 80-digit phone number to remember – all the paper within a fifty metre radius has got together, dug a tunnel and escaped to Switzerland.
That’s why all of the most important information in the world is not stored in high-security databases or neat filofaxes and filing cabinets but is scribbled on tissues, over crumpled receipts and across biro-stained hands. Until now – and the invention of Ideapaint.
The Times Online has covered Guernsey Post’s unusual twist on stamp collecting with its latest new issue, a set commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes. See more here

One of the things I love about working in digital media is that things never ever stand still, there is always a new media, a new format, better compression, a new idea. That’s not to say that all new ideas or media are good, many arrive, get 5 minutes of exposure and fade just as quickly.

It’s often said that the simplest ideas are the best; that there’s little point in trying hard to find something in a product that just doesn’t exist solely so that one can feel better about themselves and their ‘Oh-so-clever’ idea for whatever it happens to be. Doesn’t help the client, doesn’t help the public…and in truth, doesn’t even help the designer as he or she is merely fooling themselves that they’ve done a good job…

There are a million emails circling offices, especially on a Friday. Mostly rubbish where you are threatened with bad luck if you don’t ‘forward it on to 3 friends’.
But very occasionally you get the perfect Friday email, and here it is. This is one I took pleasure in forwarding on, clever, creative and funny…
